A Name that Tells a Story - Pt 2, No 3, 2007


1. Find the meanings of these words from the story.
loop - A curve or a circle.
persuade -To make someone do something by telling them reason why they should do.
desperate - If you are desperate, you will do anything to change your situation.
current - The movement of the water in a river or an ocean.
lifeless - When something is not moving and looks dead.

2. Draw the incident that happened at the river.
3. Answer these comprehension questions to show your understanding of the text.
a) Where were the boys playing? The boys were playing near the river.✔
b) Why do you think the boys pushed Te Whanaupani into the water?
Maybe because they were fighting and then they pushed Te Wanaupani.✔
c) What happened to Te Whanaupani?  He was coughing up some of the water.✔
d) Why was Haumu giving her mokopuna to Mama? So she can replace the baby as Te Whanaupani.✔
