Marama’s Dog - Pt 1, No 1, 2009


1. Find the meanings of these words from the story.
Breed - When animals breed, they mate and produce babies.✔
mongrel - A dog with mixed breed.✔
bitzer - A bit of a whole lots of breeds. ✔

2. Draw a dog that you would like to own.
This is a dog that I really want it is called Peter and he can catch sticks, and he can do tricks like he can jump through hoops. ✔

3. Answer these comprehension questions to show your understanding of the text.
a) Why do they call Kuri a bitzer? They call Kuri bitzer because Kuri does not know what sort of Dog he is.
b) What makes Kuri special? Kuri is special because he saved Marama’s life.
c) Who helped Marama feel better about her dog? Her dad helped Marama because he told her “I think the kids at school think that Kuri is not a proper dog".
d) Explain why you think the other children didn’t think Marama’s dog was special? The children at school think that Kuri is not really a proper dog and Jessica thinks that Kuri is a mongrel.
